Project Gallery: Hilton Canopy via MJ Patch & Co.

Following the success of the Fleche replacement at Arundel Cathedral, we have recently completed a similar project with Ellis & Co restoration on RAF Halton’s officers mess. The country house built between 1880 and 1883 by Alfred Rothschild as his weekend retreat, features a belvedere construction complete with internal Wrought Iron frame that was in need of urgent refurbishment and repair. Working closely with the projects Architect, Engineer and specialist consultants the existing corroded frame was carefully examined, temporarily braced and supported, ready to be lifted from the roof as a complete assembly. .

Once transported back to MJ Patch the structure was blast cleaned to reveal the true extent of corrosion and allow the team to determine which components could be salvaged and repaired and which would need to be replaced. Following the workshop refurbishment the components were finished with a high spec anti-corrosion systems that included hot zinc spraying of the wrought iron components. Once the frame had been re-assembled at our works the reversal process began to reinstate the structure onto the country house and back to its former glory.
